‘Cannibal’ stored dead mother in Tupperware and ate her with the family dog

A Spanish man is going to court after being accused of cutting his own mother into tiny pieces and putting her flesh in lunch boxes before devouring her while sharing the gruesome snack with his pet dog.

Twenty-eight-year-old Alberto Sanchez Gomez, an unemployed waiter, was taken into custody by police in February 2019 for serving up a different kind of fare. On Wednesday, he stood before a judge and confessed that voices told him to murder his mother, 68-year-old Maria Soledad Gomez, while sitting in front of the TV in their Madrid apartment, according to the Sun.

Alberto allegedly told police he was hearing “hidden messages” as he watched TV and voices told him,”kill your mom.”

He said that the voices sounded like his neighbors, friends, and famous people, the outlet reported, but he emphasized he did not have any memory of chopping up his mom or eating her body.

When police, looking into a friend’s report regarding the missing woman, visited Gomez’s house, the suspect is said to have informed them, “Yes, my mother is in here — dead.”

“Me and the dog have been eating her bit by bit,” he elaborated, according to police.

Reports from the time of the arrest said her body had been diced up into over 1,000 small pieces.

Authorities noted that they discovered the uneaten parts of mother Gomez’s body in Tupperware containers inside the apartment’s refrigerator, as well as bones being stored in the drawers of their residence, just a stone’s throw away from the capital’s renowned Las Ventas bullring.

State prosecutors indicated that the accused cannibal had a strangling incident regarding his mother after a fight just before her murder in 2019, the report says. It has been noted that the suspect may have been suffering from a personality disorder, along with a heavy drug habit, preceding the incident that led to his arrest.

According to reports, neighbors told investigators they frequently heard loud voices coming from the apartment and would often witness cops and paramedics coming and going.

“The accused then transferred his mother’s body to the bedroom and put it on the bed with the aim of making her body disappear. To do that he cut her up using a carpenter’s saw and two kitchen knives,” the indictment states. “Once he had cut her body up he would eat bits of it from time to time over a period of around a fortnight, putting some of the parts of her body in Tupperware containers around the apartment and in the fridge and throwing others away in plastic bags.”

Sanchez Gomez is now facing 15 years to life behind bars and has undergone a psychiatric assessment. The exam’s results are anticipated to be detailed as the trial unfolds.

Prosecutors are also seeking damages to be paid to his older brother of about 90,000 euros — roughly $108,000 — for the death of his mother if he is found guilty of the slaying and of desecrating her body.

“I can’t stop thinking about what happened. I’d been ill for a long time and I took refuge in drugs,” Sanchez Gomez outlined in a letter from his prison cell, according to the Sun.

“I’d been hearing voices for a long time and having hallucinations. All this led me to the worst thing that’s happened in my life,” he went on in the letter, which was printed in local media.

The suspect, whose father was a cabinet-maker who passed away when Sanchez Gomz was 15, has remained in prison since his 2019 arrest.
