A Tacoma, Wa. middle-school teacher booted a 10-year-old student from a remote learning class and berated him after the student said he admired President Donald Trump, reports Breitbart News.
According to AM 770 KTTH, a teacher at P.G. Keithley Middle School asks students a “question of the day” each day during their virtual learning classes. On Friday the teacher, Brendan Stanton, asked students “Who is the one person you admire most and why?”
“I admire Donald J. Trump because he is making America great again. And because he is the best president the United States of America could ever, ever have. And he built the wall so terrorists couldn’t come into in the U.S. Trump is the best person in the world. And that’s why I admire him,” screenshots show the student wrote.
KTTH afternoon host Jason Rantz reports that the teacher “almost immediately kicked the student out of the chatroom, deleted the chat, and proceeded to attack the president, while calling out the student for mentioning him.”
The student then called for his mother, Elsy Kusander, who says she heard Stanton having a meltdown over the president. She began to record the teacher’s outburst.
“The example that was shared in the chat, which I went ahead and erased for us, was not appropriate right?” Stanton said to his students. “Especially as that individual has created so much division and hatred between people and specifically spoken hatred to many different individuals, OK?”
According to the report, Stanton refused to even use President Trump’s name during his tirade, referring to the Commander-in-Chief only as “that individual.”
“Again, that individual has spoken hate to many individuals and I don’t think is an appropriate example for a role model that we should be admiring,” Stanton said in the blow-up.
Stanton was seemingly unaware the student’s mother had entered the room and when she spoke up, he backtracked and said the class would not be recorded or posted to a digital porthole where lessons are usually sent.
After being called out, he claimed to the mother that the students were asked to choose a computer programmer they admired or someone in their family or community.
“Donald Trump would not fit that prompt … just because it was a little bit off topic,” Stanton is heard saying to the mother in the audio recording of the conversation. Stanton then claimed he deleted her son’s comment about Trump because another student was uncomfortable with it.
“My perspective has nothing to do with Donald Trump himself, right?” Stanton said. “I try to keep politics out of the classroom.”
“Students have different opinions, right?” he goes on to say. “And so, if the way that I said it was not perfect, I do apologize. What I was trying to say is just, ‘Hey, hey, guys, let’s get it back to our topic of the day because we really need to get moving into our content, which was on our computer scientists.’”
But then Stanton slipped back into his own politicking, claiming the t10n-year-old’s comment was deeply offensive to him, particularly the bit about a border wall keeping out terrorists.
“But we know that our neighbors at the southern border are not all terrorists, right?,” he said.
The mother then informed the teacher that she is an immigrant from Honduras, when the teacher fires back, “so you would understand.”
After the mother informs Stanton that she recorded the conversation, he apologizes to her and promises he will apologize to the son. The mother then sent the recording to the radio station, telling the host, “How can a teacher be teaching to his students horrible things about the president of the country without facts?”
According to Breitbart News, Rantz said he sent “multiple emails” to Stanton, the school principal, and the district communications manager but received no response.
Students supporting Trump getting scolded by teachers and then called out by parents has been a fairly regularly occurrence in the age of virtual learning, where vigilante parents are getting a taste of the extreme bias their students are subjected to in the classroom.
Last week, a California high-school teacher threatened to kick a student out of virtual class for displaying a Trump 2020 flag in his bedroom, according to Breitbart News.
“You can sit up, remove the flag, or reposition your camera within the next 15 seconds or I’m kicking you out of class,” the teacher said during the virtual class, according to CBS 13 Sacramento.
In video of the incident, the teacher is overheard counting to 15 seconds while repeating the demand. The student then waved goodbye and left the class before the furious teacher reached 15.
The teacher’s hysterical scolding appears to be in violation of California law, specifically State Education Code 48907, which states:
“[Students] of the public schools, including charter schools, shall have the right to exercise freedom of speech and of the press including, but not limited to, the use of bulletin boards, the distribution of printed materials or petitions, the wearing of buttons, badges, and other insignia, and the right of expression in official publications, whether or not the publications or other means of expression are supported financially by the school or by use of school facilities, except that expression shall be prohibited which is obscene, libelous, or slanderous.”
