While driving back from her son’s baseball game, a woman in New Caney, Texas, was reportedly killed instantly when a rogue tire spiraled off another vehicle and struck the woman’s windshield on Thursday.

The woman, 52, was driving her GMC SUV when a tire dislodged from a Dodge pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction. The woman was killed on contact, but her son, 17, who was asleep in the passenger seat, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, according to KTRK.

The accident happened in late afternoon on the Eastex Freeway just 30 miles northeast of Houston and caused a three-hour shutdown of the road. Investigators discovered that the woman who was struck by the tire rear-ended another vehicle driven by a man and his three children—all of whom were taken to a hospital in serious condition.

There is still no word on what caused the tire to fly off the Dodge truck in the first place. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommended that tires of every vehicle be equipped with the correct amount of pressure, which could be a cause for the reason why the tire dislodged in the first place.

The NHTSA reported that 738 people were fatally struck in tire-related car accidents in 2017 alone, and just 19 percent of consumers maintain correct tire pressure.

The NHTSA recommended that tire pressure be checked every month, not putting off the tire pressure notifications that pop up in the vehicle, and to regularly have the tires rotated to diminish the likelihood of tire-related car accidents.
